Presenter: Janelle White, MS; Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs at the University of Chicago

In this session, participants will explore key terms and concepts related to inclusivity, equity, and identity, establishing a common language that supports meaningful dialogue through effective allyship. These tools will help individuals examine their perspectives and prepare for respectful, empathetic engagement in future conversations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Engage in practices of introspection through critical inquiry of personal experiences and use of language
  • Learn tools to become effective allies for marginalized communities
  • Be equipped with inclusive language to build a more equitable and welcoming environment for all

Janelle White, MS currently serves as the Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs at the University of Chicago and as an Associate for the Consortium for Inclusion & Equity, LLC, an integrated diversity management consulting firm. She has worked across educational systems from elementary through higher education, government agencies, and private companies to explore concepts of justice, inclusion, and equity within their organizational leadership, curriculum development, and community engagement initiatives. In her spare time, she serves as a Northwest Indiana Food Council board member, which supports Indiana's local food system, food justice, and food systems change through farm-to-table programs and farmer resources. Janelle lives fully in the "sandwich generation" as she navigates supporting the health needs of her parents and her own growing family as she and her husband experience the joys of parenthood.
