IREM® Statement on Supreme Court Decision

On Thursday night, the U.S. Supreme Court ended the federal moratorium on residential evictions.

In a 6-3 ruling, a majority of justices agreed that the stay on the lower court’s order finding the CDC’s eviction moratorium to be unlawful was no longer justified.

New Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) Distribution Guidelines Released

These changes follow a letter with recommendations for improving the program sent by the housing provider coalition group that IREM participates in to the Administration and Congress. Several of those recommendations have now been adopted, including allowing self-attestation, advances for housing providers, and ensuring that previous addresses are eligible for ERAP funds

Congress is heading into a busy month – here is a list of deadlines to watch out for in September:

→ Sept. 6: Enhanced federal unemployment benefits approved under the American Rescue Plan expire.

→ Sept. 11: 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks

→ Sept. 15: House and Senate committees must finish drafting their portions of the Democrats’ big reconciliation bill.

→ Sept. 30: Government funding runs out. Possible options to keep the government running: a yearlong omnibus , a minibus or continuing resolutions of various lengths.

→ Sept. 30: Surface transportation program authorization expires.

→ Sept. 30: National flood insurance program authorization expires.
