Last Chance to Meet with Your Federal Legislators
While federal legislators are back home during their summer recess from August 5 – September 6, IREM members should take the opportunity to schedule meetings to discuss issues important to our industry. Protecting the real estate management industry requires work all year-round.
Learn more about how to schedule and prepare for a meeting and the issues to discuss by going to IREM’s In-District Program initiative.
Face-to-face meeting with elected representatives, or a key member of their staff, is the best way to teach them about your concerns and, ideally, influence their decisions.
If you have already participated in a meeting, or have one scheduled, please submit the meeting details to iremlegislation@irem.org.
Muller Testimony Can’t Eclipse IREM’s Congressional Briefing
While some members of Congress were attending Robert Muller’s testimony on July 24th, 75 Congressional staffers attended IREM’s Congressional Briefing in D.C. Amy Hedgecock, CPM, IREM’s Legislative and Public Policy (LPP) Committee Chair, points out that “It’s important to have these events, as it allows us an opportunity to directly communicate property management issues to the people writing and voting on the legislation that affects our industry.” Full article
Key Contact Program
A new resource added to our Public Policy webpage is our Key Contact initiative. Becoming a Key Contact allows IREM members another opportunity to get involved in our advocacy efforts. It also provides IREM staff with access to valuable "go-to" contacts who have cultivated relationships with key legislators that may bolster our advocacy efforts. Key Contacts can play a vital role in helping to educate and engage lawmakers on legislation, regulation, or other actions on Capitol Hill that impact the property management industry. Learn more
