Please join us for a dynamic session on Thursday, August 8th at 11 a.m. CDT for an advocacy update. Ted Thurn, IREM’s Senior Director of Government Affairs, and Hillary Vrba, IREM's Government Affairs Liaison, will present on several important issues addressing the property management industry. The Government Affairs team will address topics such as: federal proposals, state proposals, IREM activities and resources, why IREM members should advocate for the profession, and how you can meet with federal or state legislators during the August recess.

Learning objectives:

  • Overview of federal proposals, such as the Choice in Affordable Housing Act and Respect State Housing Laws Act, Insurance Affordability, and how they may affect the real estate management industry.
  • Summary of state legislation, including rent control, incarceration screenings, and just cause eviction proposals.
  • 2024 is an election year. The November election will include the Presidential election, all 435 House seats and 33 Senate seats are up for election. Learn about how the election and may affect the real estate industry and also hear about how you can schedule meetings with your legislators during the August recess.  

Ted Thurn is IREM’s Senior Director of Government Affairs.

Ted Thurn has worked in the association field for the past 20 years. During his time in government affairs, Ted has led all aspects of federal and state legislative advocacy efforts and has served as a key advisor on emerging federal and state legislative agendas. At IREM, Ted is responsible for a number of government affairs initiatives and provides strategic support and recommendation of actions to executive leadership.

Ted holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Saint Xavier University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from DePaul University.

Hillary Vrba is IREM’s Government Affairs Liaison, Government Affairs.

Hillary Vrba is IREM’s Government Affairs Liaison and is responsible for supporting the Senior Director in the successful execution of all advocacy-based initiatives and chapter services. Before joining the IREM team, Hillary worked in constituent services for an Illinois state Senator and as a senior staff member on several political campaigns.

Hillary has a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration at Northwestern University.
