ESG initiatives are generally seen as something owners and investment managers will develop to address some higher corporate obligations. Property managers may view these initiatives as supplemental to their normal business obligations. The reality is that property managers are critical players if the implementation of an ESG strategy is to be successful. This session will take a deep dive into the Governance component of an ESG platform and describe the ways that property managers can support and enhance the ultimate success of such strategies. It is also the session's goal to encourage property managers to take a more active role in developing ESG strategies.

Speaker Nicholas Stolatis has a long history of advocating for the integration of ESG principles as a best practice and will offer recommendations on how property managers can generate even more value from ESG initiatives, specifically on applying the principles and practices related to Governance.

Nick StolatisNicholas E. Stolatis is an experienced professional in asset and portfolio management, and sustainability, providing advisory and consulting services on implementation of best practices in the management of investment real estate portfolios. He is a principal of EPN Real Estate Services, Inc., leading the asset management, transaction, and sustainability practice for the firm. He previously served as a senior officer in the Global Real Estate division of TIAA, a multinational financial services firm with over one billion dollars in real estate investments. He created the award winning Global Real Estate Sustainability Initiative, which generated over $100,000,000 in savings through improved energy efficiency, achieved through the development, adoption, and implementation of best practices across the entire equity real estate investment portfolio. Nicholas created tremendous value for the organization through skilled transactional activity, property development and organizational enhancements.

Nicholas is the Immediate Past Chair Board of Trustees of the Building Owners and Managers Institute International (BOMI), and holds membership in professional organizations, including the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), and the Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA). He is the current Treasurer, and Past President, of the Greater NY Chapter of IREM. He has also participated on the committee which developed the IREM Sustainable Management course and is a contributing author for the BOMI Asset Management and High-Performance Buildings courses. Nicholas is one of 18 global subject matter experts serving on the International Property Measurement Standards Coalition’s Standards Setting Committee and co-chaired the BOMA Floor Standards Revision Committee. He is an adjunct professor at Fordham University’s Real Estate Institute. Nicholas also serves on the Board of Advisors for 5 Stone Green Capital.
