Tracking energy, water, and waste and using that data to reduce consumption can yield clear financial benefits—from lower operating expenses to marketing and leasing advantages from residents interested in green living. Despite these benefits, multifamily communities are behind other property types in benchmarking and tracking resource use.

Several recent developments have allowed the multifamily sector to catch up. Utility data is becoming more available, and the full capabilities of ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager®, including ENERGY STAR scores and certification, are now accessible to multifamily properties. This course discusses how to take advantage of these developments.
