Karen Whitt, CPM, CRE, RPA, serves on the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Executive Committee. She is the U.S. president and chief operating officer for real estate management services and president of investor services for Colliers International, AMO.
Whitt became an IREM Member in 1992, and earned her CPM designation in 1998. She is affiliated with IREM’s Greater Metropolitan Washington D.C. Chapter and was a past chapter president. She also was honored with the chapter’s “CPM of the Year” award in 2000. At the national level, she has served IREM as a regional vice president.
She oversees Colliers International’s property management assignments in the United States and leads business development activities. She is responsible for ensuring professional, competent management in all of Colliers markets and driving growth across the entire investor client spectrum. Based in Washington D.C., she teams with Colliers transaction and investment sales professionals to offer clients an integrated real estate solution. Whitt has 20-plus years of experience in property management on both coasts. Before joining Colliers, she served as the president of management services/strategic accounts with Grubb & Ellis for four years. Prior to that she was a principal with Trammel Crow Company (TCC) for nine years and with Faison & Associates for five years in the Mid- Atlantic area. She began her career in San Diego and she has directly managed office, retail and mixed-use portfolios for large institutional clients like TIAA-DREF, Clarion Partners, UBS and Principal.
In addition to her IREM affiliation, she is a member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), International Facility Management Association (IFMA), and the Real Estate Group. Whitt is also an advisor to the Virginia Tech Real Estate Program, through which she provides expert guidance and mentoring to students focusing on developing careers in commercial real estate after graduation. She has been a member of BOMA’s National Advisory Council, and the National Association of Realtors’ Commercial Firm Advisory Board.
